WE DID IT!  目标达成!

It tood us 6 years! Since Frankie lindy hopped to heaven in 2009, dancers around the world had gotten on a mission asking Google to honor Frankie and World Lindy Hop Day by creating Frankie's Google Doodle on his birthday. We have been disappointed year after year... But in 2006, Frankie finally got his Google Doodle!!

Google Doodle for Frankie

May 26 is Frankie Manning's, the Ambassador of Lindy Hop, birthday. Swing dancers around the world are sending emails to Google to request that they create a doodle for Frankie Manning to display on May 26th. You can ask any way you like. But here are two examples that you can copy or persoanlize it before sending. Here is the movement's Facebook page for you to voice your support and pass on the information --- https://www.facebook.com/events/280677998690775/281066528651922/

Dear Googlers,

I'm writing to suggest that for your next doodle you consider honoring Frankie Manning, a man who inspired thousands of people in several countries with his energy, his love, and his talent. His birthday is May 26th, and I'd like the doodle to be on that date.

Frankie Manning was one of the original Lindy Hoppers in the Savoy Ballroom in the 1920s and 30s. He was the first person to execute an "air step," or "aerial," in Lindy Hop, a type of acrobatic move that has come to dominate the public perception of swing dancing. Perhaps more significantly, though, he was an indispensable resource during the swing revival beginning in the 1980s and continuing to this day. His knowledge and generosity helped people to become skilled in a complex and dormant art, while his energy and personality made them want to. He helped people rediscover the richness of early jazz and swing as well as the joy of dancing to it with a partner.

Frankie Manning died April 27, 2009, just before his 95th birthday celebration (Frankie95, held in New York). The celebration was held anyway, as a way of mourning and celebrating the man and his contributions and the myriad ways he had touched so many people during his life. During the festival a tribute video was screened that featured over 5,000 dancers from 22 countries performing the "shim sham," a choreographed line dance that has come to be associated with Frankie.

Hi Google!

Please can your Google doodle on May 26 be a tribute to Frank Manning, the world famous swing dancer? He died on this day 3 years ago, at the age of 94, so we are all thinking of him today.

On May 26, his birthday, thousands of dancers young and old around the world will be remembering and honouring him. He was one of the most famous and important swing dancers and choreographers in the 1930s and 1940s, so we honoured him as a living legend. He created the first acrobatic step in swing dancing. He choreographed and danced for Hollywood films. He toured the world and performed on the most famous stages of the swing era.

But more than that, in the 1980s, when the dance called Lindy Hop had been all-but-dead for 40 years, Frankie came out of retirement and started teaching around the world. He helped create an international revival of swing dancing and culture, and now there are tens of thousands of swing dancers all around the globe. It's a joyous, exciting dance, a celebration of jazz and life, and Frankie was the most beloved member of our international family. He was an inspiring, kind, generous and joyful man. He was our teacher, our friend and our idol. He was still dancing and teaching all the way up to the age of 94.

He touched so many people, all around the world. We called him the Ambassador of Lindy Hop, and there is a book about him by that title (http://www.amazon.com/Frankie-Manning-Ambassador-Lindy-Hop/dp/1592135633).

Please consider honouring him with a Google doodle on May 26, it would mean a lot to a lot of people!

Yours sincerely,
